A birthday card to Hobbs was returned to sender after Hobbs was killed on his birthday in World War II. Kokomo native Ensign Wright "Billy" Hobbs was one of the last four men to die in World War II in the final Pacific air battle on August 15, 1945. Hobbs' story is the subject of a new book by John Wukovits called Dogfight Over Tokyo.
